Hello Goodbye

February 25th, 2008 by Daron

As is apparent, we’ve worked on a lot of the Target Advertising Music.  Mostly it been through Peterson Milla Hooks (aka PMH) , who are great and super talented.  Dave Peterson (their creative director) is by far one of the most talented people in this industry.

Bryan Hanna and I collaborated on the first version Hello Goodbye (the one with Sophia Shorai singing).  The second we finished the demo we knew we had done something  special.  There is a sincerity about the track thats hard to create or even plan for, and I can’t say enough good things about Sophia.  She is a great talent.  Here’s the 60. hello_goodbye_60.mp3

So, on to what’s happening now. Bryan just finished another Hello Goodbye for Target Home.  It’s super cool.  I cant publish it because it hasn’t aired yet. Super double extra top secret stuff.  I can say that its kind of Dexys Midnight baroque guitar pop with Allen Clapp from The Orange Peels singing.

Modern Music Scores Sesame Street Segment

December 15th, 2007 by Modern Music

Sesame Street PuppetsModern Music composer, Rick Meyer, scored original music for Sesame Street Workshop’s new segment, “Word on the Street” co-created with Minneapolis-based advertising agency, Mono.

Each episode of Sesame Street’s 38th season is focused on increasing literacy among children and begins with a “‘What’s the Word on the Street?” interview segment that defines the episode’s “Word on the Street.” These 26 new words, such as “tricycle,” “predicament” and “squid,” are repeated later in the show in celebrity clips, featuring stars such as Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres and Brian Williams, that reinforce the meaning of the day’s word to Sesame Street’s young viewers.

“Scoring music for these Sesame Street segments gave me the chance to dig in and use ‘non-standard’ instruments that I just don’t normally use every day — like xylophones and marimbas, pots and pans, whatever’s laying around. I recently released two children’s albums and I know that kids really love percussion. So, I punctuated the high-energy of the ‘Word on the Street’ segments by using these instruments. Music for kids should sound friendly, but never ‘condescending.’ I wanted to keep the music fresh and I enjoyed getting to play around with fun musical instruments. Kid’s are smart and I like to play to that!”

That’s the word from Rick Meyer.
